Summer's Gone

Gershwin's "Summertime" (1935) has been covered 33,000 times! We hear Janis Joplin Live at Woodstock Aug 1969. One of Paul McCartney's first songs written when he was 16 is "I'll Follow the Sun" recorded by The Beatles in 1965 and we also hear Lennon's "Sun King" from Abbey Road. Bob Dylan weighs in on "Summer Days" from Love and Theft and Judy Collins sings a Phil Ochs song about the Watts riots in the summer of 1965 called "In the Heat of the Summer". Stevie Wonder sang "I Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer" at Michael Jackson's memorial in July 2009 and we also hear "Summer Soft" from Songs in the Key of Life. Joni Mitchell recorded "The Hissing of Summer Lawns" in 1975 and we also hear "Shadows and Light" from that album. From the Beach Boys 2012 album we hear "Isn't It Time", "Daybreak Over the Ocean" and Brian Wilson's masterpiece "Summers Gone".
